Autumn field walk: the Chuckanut benches
Three unhurried hours on the lower benches, looking at how water leaves a hillside in the first serious rain of the year. Steep in two places.

Everything here is free and open to anybody. Walks are slow, work parties finish by lunch, and nobody will ask you to introduce yourself to a circle.

Saturday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm · Grange hall, Nooksack valley
A short business meeting in the grange hall — the year's work, the accounts, and whoever is standing for the board — then soup, then a walk on the bench above the river for anyone who would rather be outside. Members and non-members alike; the soup is the same.

Willow stakes and alder whips along the lower bank. Bring boots and a lunch; we bring the plants, the tools and a thermos the size of a fire hydrant.

Before you come
What to bring, and what not to worry about
Boots
Whatever you already own, as long as you do not mind them getting wet. Nobody here has impressive footwear.
Layers
It is colder standing in a creek than walking to it, and the wind on the flats is a separate weather system.
Lunch and water
For work parties. Walks are short enough that a pocket is enough.
Nothing else
Tools, gloves, plants and the thermos are ours. Turning up is the whole of your obligation.
Walk with us
Come on a Saturday. Bring nobody but yourself.
